How to Get a Student Advantage Discount Card

Visit the Student Advantage web site to purchase a Student Advantage Card and to learn more about the thousands of discounts around campus and online.

To receive this discount, the cardholder must present both a valid Student Advantage Card and a valid photo ID at time of ticket purchase and onboard trains. Each must be valid for the current school term.

How to Enter Your Student Advantage Discount Number While Booking Tickets

To take advantage of this discount:

  • On the 'Passenger Discounts' page of the reservation booking process, select 'Student Advantage' as your preferred passenger discount type. Then, on the 'Passenger Info' page of the booking process, enter your Student Advantage membership number.
  • Or, create a user profile on Amtrak.com and select 'Student Advantage' as your passenger discount type. Enter your Student Advantage discount number. Student Advantage will be pre-selected as your preferred passenger discount type, and your Student Advantage discount number will appear, already filled-in, in the appropriate text field.

When entering your Student Advantage discount number, omit any spaces and dashes.

Amtrak Guest Rewards

Join Amtrak Guest Rewards, Amtrak's frequent traveler program, at no cost. Enroll in Amtrak Guest Rewards and receive two points for every dollar spent on Amtrak travel, or up to 750 points per trip on Acela Express plus an additional 1,000 point bonus after the first roundtrip on Amtrak.

Three-Day Advance Purchase

Reservations, and changes, must be made a minimum of three days prior to travel for reserved and unreserved service.

Discount Limitations
  • Student Advantage cardholder benefits are non-transferable; the discount is available only to the card-holding student. The cardholder may not obtain discounts for others.
  • The Student Advantage discount is not valid on weekday Acela Express trains.
  • The Student Advantage discount does not apply to Pacific Business Class, First class or sleeping accommodation. These upgrades are permitted upon payment of the full accommodation charges.
  • For Auto Train service, Student Advantage cardholders receive a 15% discount off adult rail fare. Discount does not apply to the vehicle charge.
  • The Student Advantage discount is not valid for travel on certain Amtrak Thruway bus services.
  • The Student Advantage discount is not valid on the Canadian portion of services operated jointly between Amtrak and VIA Rail Canada.
  • The Student Advantage discount is not valid for USA Rail Passes and Multi-Ride tickets.
  • The Student Advantage discount may not be combinable with other discount offers; refer to the terms and conditions for each offer.
  • Additional restrictions may apply.
