KIDS RIDE FREE TO STOCKTON ASPARAGUS FESTIVAL

The Stockton Asparagus Festival, celebrating one of San Joaquin County’s most prestigious agricultural products, will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 25, 26, 27 between 10:00 am and 7:00 pm in downtown Stockton at McLeod Lake. The three-day Festival includes a number of events, including asparagus tasting and top-name entertainment.

For those traveling to Stockton to enjoy the Festival, the best way to travel is on Amtrak California San Joaquins. Free shuttle service is offered by MV Transportation, will take Amtrak passengers arriving in Stockton from the station to the Festival Main Gate. And just to make it more fun for the family, up to two children ages 2 through 15 ride free aboard San Joaquin trains to and from Stockton, and when accompanied by a full fare paying adult. From the San Joaquin Valley, passengers should take San Joaquin train 701, which departs Bakersfield at 7:15 am and from Fresno at 9:10 am, arriving at Stockton ACE Station at 11:20 am. The return train would be San Joaquin 704, leaving Stockton ACE Station at 5:20 pm or San Joaquin 718, leaving Stockton Santa Fe Station at 7:34 pm. Bay Area travelers will want to arrive on train 712, departing from Oakland at 7:30 am, arriving in Stockton at 9:17am. The Bay Area return trains are San Joaquin train 712, departing at 2:29 pm or train 715 departing Stockton at 5:29 pm.

The Asparagus Festival features two big performing stages; Asparagus Alley featuring asparagus tasting and cooking demonstration kitchens; a wine and beer pavilion; craft show; and 600 booths, displays and exhibits. Fair promoters expect more than 100,000 festival attendees to enjoy some 40,000 pounds of asparagus during the three-day event. And, don’t miss the asparagus eating competition, to be held Saturday at 12-noon on the main stage.

Proceeds from the Asparagus Festival, which in past years have been more than $400,000, are donated to some 100 local charities.
