ACE - Altamont Commuter Express

ACE operates regional rail service between Stockton and San Jose.  ACE service is generally weekedays only.  Some special trains are operated for events.  Check with ACE for details <http://www.acerail.com/

ACE trains stop at the ACE Station in Stockton, used by Amtrak Trains 701, 702, 703 and 704 - approximately 1 mile east of the Amtrak Station used by other Amtrak Trains.  The San Jose terminal is the Amtrak/Caltrain station; the Livermore stop is also used by Amtrak buses.

Amtrak California passengers traveling on weekdays to Tracy, Livermore, Pleasanton, Fremont, Great America or San Jose on San Joaquin train 711, or returning from those points on trains 716 or 718 now use ACE trains instead of Amtrak Thruway buses.  A short shuttle bus ride connecs the two Stockton train stations. BART - Bay Area Rapid Transit

BART operates frequent rail transit service on six lines serving 43 stations in San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa and San Mateo Counties.  Trains operate from 4:00am to Midnight Weekdays, 6:00am to Midnight Saturdays, and 8:00am to Midnight Sundays.  Weekday headways vary from 5 to 15 minutes.  Evening and weekend headways are 20 minutes.

BART’s Richmond Station is adjacent to the Amtrak Station.  BART’s Embarcadero Station is about 2 blocks from the Amtrak Ticket Office and Bus Stop at the Ferry Building.  Amtrak buses stop at BART’s Dublin/Pleasanton station.

Amtrak passengers can purchase BART tickets at discout from the Amtrak service agent in the cafe on both San Joaquin and Capitol Corridor trains.

Caltrain

Caltrain operates regional rail service between San Francisco and San Jose serving Peninsula stations.  Weekday peak period service extends beyond San Jose to Morgan Hill, Gilroy, and other intermediate stops.

Weekday service consists of a local train and a limited stop train each hour, with more frequent service and “Baby Bullet” express trains during peak periods.  Evening and weekend local service is hourly.  Monday through Saturday trains run northbound until about 10:30pm and southbound until about midnight.  On Sundays and Holidays service ends about 9:00pm. 

Amtrak’s San Francisco Motor Coach connections stop at the Caltrain Station.  Amtrak’s San Jose station is shared by ACE and Caltrain; the Amtrak Santa Clara,  and Gilroy motor coach stops are in front of the Caltrain stations.

Connections to Marin County

Golden Gate Transit’s Route 42 provides connecting service from the Richmond Amtrak/BART station to the Downtown San Rafael Transit Center.  At the Transit Center, connections can be made to points throughout Marin County. 

Bus service operates half-hourly on weekdays (with some peak hour gaps) until about 7:00pm, and hourly until midnight.  On weekends and Holidays, buses run hourly all day until about midnight.

Transit Transfers

Ride free on local connecting East Bay AC Transit buses, Benicia Breeze, Contra Costa County Connection, Rio Vista Delta Breeze,  Sacramento RT buses/light rail, Merced County Transit (The Bus) and FAX buses in Fresno.  While en route on your San Joaquin train ask the conductor for a San Joaquin Transit Transfer.



Airport Connections

At Van Nuys/FlyAway, frequent bus service is available to Los Angeles International Airport.  Buses run every 15 to 30 minutes, all day long, and less frequently after midnight.  Separate tickets are required, and may be purchased at the FlyAway Terminal in Van Nuys.  FlyAway service is also available from Los Angeles Union Station.  FlyAway Information:  (818) 994-5554 or (310) 646-5252.

The Burbank-Bob Hope Airport bus stop/train station is one short block from the terminal building--and shuttle service is available for those with baggage. RTD buses stop at the station, as well as the Amtrak Motor Coach connection to/from San Joaquin trains in Bakersfield.  Pacific Surfliner and Metrolink trains stop at the Airport train station.

The San Francisco-Downtown/SF Shopping Centre bus stop at Market and 4th Streets is just around the corner from SFO Airporter's stop at the San Francisco Marriott Hotel.  SFO Airporter operates frequent service to San Francisco Airport from 5:20am to 11:05pm everyday.  SFO Airporter Information:  (415) 495-8404.  The San Franicsco-Financial District bus stop at the Hyatt Regency Hotel is adjacent to BART’s Embarcadero Station where the Blue Line provides frequent service to San Francisco Airport.  

The Amtrak bus stop at the Dublin/Pleasanton BART station offers a connection to both San Francisco and Oakland Airports.  BART's Blue Line operates directly from Dublin/Pleasanton to San Francisco Airport via Coliseum.  At the San Francisco Airport station a people mover transports passengers to the various terminals.  At Coliseum Station, Oakland Air-BART provides frequent shuttle service to Oakland Airport.  Both airport connections may also be reached via BART from Amtrak's Richmond station.  Air-BART Information:  (510) 562-7700.
