Allensworth State Historical Park is located on State Highway Route 43 about thirty miles north of Wasco and seven miles west of Earlimart. It lies along the route of the San Joaquin trains, between the Wasco and Corcoran stops.  Allensworth is an unstaffed conditional stop for Amtrak California's San Joaquins, meaning the trains will only stop to discharge or pick up groups with advance reservations. The Allensworth stop does have a platform, but it does not have a shelter, telephone or other services. Trains stop at the entrance to the park. It is but a short walk west on Stowe Avenue to the visitor center.

"The California Colony and Home Promotion Association" was organized in 1908 by Col. Allen Allensworth, William Payne, and three other black men as an experimental farming community for former black slaves. The community flourished in the teens, but problems besetting farming all over America in the twenties and thirties contributed to the general decline of Allensworth. By the end of World War II, many more residents had left for the various war efforts, and the community all but disappeared.

The preserved townsite features nine restored buildings, including a schoolhouse, a hotel, a general store and several homes. A visitor center offers a short film about Allen Allensworth and the town he founded. Restrooms, drinking water and picnic facilities are adjacent to the center.
