Effective November 7 , 2005, Amtrak California service returned to Monterey Transit Plaza via the new Rte 37 -- Pacheco Pass route from Merced. This route permits travel between the San Joaquin Valley and the Coastal communities of Monterey and Salinas. This route also stops at San Juan Bautiste, Los Banos, and Hollister, although local travel (not part of an Amtrak train trip) is not permitted. Connections to Monterey can be made by taking Monterey Salinas Transit buses from the Amtrak station in Salinas.
Amtrak California Motor Coaches from the Central Valley (via Merced) stop at the Transit Plaza, Tyler and Pearl, zip = 93940. In addition, Amtrak bus feeders to/from the Coast Starlight use this stop as well as the others shown on the map.
This stop (as well as all other Monterey Amtrak stops) is NOT staffed by Amtrak. For this reason, there is no checked baggage nor ticket sales at these locations. The nearest station offering those services in Salinas.
