The Palm Springs North Amtrak Station opened on June 3, 1997. The only trains stopping at this station are Trains 1 and 2, the Sunset Limited, which operates three days a week between Los Angeles and Orlando, Florida*. The station is located on the Union Pacific (former Southern Pacific) Railroad tracks just south of Interstate 10 west of Indian Avenue -- about 4 miles (6 km) north of downtown Palm Springs.
*Note: The Sunset Limited's schedules have been revised effective March 8 in both directions west of New Orleans. These changes make possible day trips between Los Angeles and Palm Springs. Traveling toward Los Angeles, leave on train #1 at 6:37 a.m. Sunday, Wednesday or Friday (time approximate), arrive in Los Angeles 10:10 a.m. Leave Los Angeles eastbound on train #2 at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Wednesday, or Friday, arrive in Palm Springs at 5:06 p.m. (time approximate). DUE TO HURRICANE KATRINA, THE SUNSET LIMITED IS NOT OPERATING EAST OF NEW ORLEANS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. CONSULT AMTRAK (1-800-USA-RAIL) FOR DETAILS.
Check with Amtrak for actual arrival time -- 1-800-USA-RAIL. Reservations are required on the Sunset Limited.
Palm Springs North is unstaffed. At the present time, there is a parking lot, a boarding platform, lighting and a telephone booth. Palm Springs officials are planning to build a covered waiting area in the near future. There is no public transportation between this station and Palm Springs.
This is NOT the stop for Amtrak's motor coach feeder to and from the San Joaquin trains. That stop is located in central Palm Springs at Palm Springs Airport at the Sun Bus stop.
