Truckee is unstaffed by Amtrak, although there is a Greyhound ticket office in the historic Truckee Depot . Neither Amtrak tickets, baggage, nor package express shipments are handled at this location. Tickets may be purchased from an Amtrak travel agent, over the telephone from Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL (1-800-872-7245) or over the internet from Amtrak's home page, www.tickets.amtrak.com.

Truckee is a stop for the California Zephyr trains which operate daily between Oakland, California and Chicago, Illinois, with stops in Reno, Salt Lake City, Denver, Lincoln and Omaha and small communities along the route. The Zephyr is an all reserved seat long distance train with full dining service and sleeping cars. Since it carries a large number of people from California to Reno/Sparks, reservations well in advance are advised.

Truckee is also a stop for Amtrak California motor coaches which connect to the Capitol trains in Sacramento and San Joaquin trains in Stockton to Reno and Sparks. There are several schedules daily, making connections to the west easy and reliable.
